Heart Songs Kirtan
Sing for Joy! Music to Raise Your Vibration
Every heart has a song to sing. When we sing that song in community, we uplift ourselves and experience the peace and joy of our souls.
Kirtan, call and response singing, has its roots in the Bhakti Yoga tradition. But it is an all-inclusive practice open to people of all backgrounds and traditions. It is an offering of love and devotion for the divine in all of its many forms. By focusing heart-centered attention on the divine through song, we reconnect to our inner-most essence which is peace, love, and joy.
The songs Darren leads include Sanskrit mantras, English lyrics, and chants from other wisdom traditions. Between songs, he shares universal teachings and stories from the Bhakti Yoga tradition to provide inspiration on the spiritual path. It is an incredibly uplifting and joyful experience.
Darren’s Musical Journey
Darren began writing and performing music in his early teens. This would lead to him fronting two bands, performing all around the world, and garnering over 40 original song placements in t.v shows.
In his early 30’s, living in Santa Monica, he discovered yoga. One of his yoga teachers would lead kirtan before and after the asana practice. The mantras touched Darren’s heart in a powerful way and his path as a musician would be forever changed.
He soon took a deep dive into the practice of Bhakti Yoga and kirtan. Returning to his east coast roots, he began leading a monthly kirtan at a yoga studio in NYC, formed his first kirtan band The Love Tribe, and began leading kirtan at yoga studios all around the country.
Upon moving to Santa Barbara in 2019, he continued to expand upon his vision as a chant leader bringing his gifts to more yoga studios and yoga festivals. He now leads a monthly kirtan at Yoga Soup in Santa Barbara, and travels extensively sharing his gifts as a kirtan artist throughout the world.
Darren is a proud ambassador for the organization Yoga Gives Back which empowers women and children in India to live sustainable lives.
About the Singing
Absolutely no prior singing experience is required to participate in these gatherings. If you prefer not to share your voice, that is perfectly fine. Simply by listening, one receives so much. If you do choose to share your voice, your mind might initially think that you are making sound as an individual. But in reality, we are coming together as a group collective and creating a unified field of love where all voices become one. That is the beauty of kirtan!

“I usually talk too much, but here I am, at a loss for words! I knew today was going to be very special, and lead me to where I needed to be. And although it was obvious from peoples’ comments that everyone else understood kirtan, none of that mattered. What mattered was that we were all together and there was so much love and healing generated. I didn’t know the words, the languages, you name it, I didn’t know it, but my center did, so I just went with it and sang and allowed myself to ‘be.’”
